Whale tale

I'm visiting the other side of Australia on Friday this week for a few days to go whale-watching and wine-tasting with a good friend in the beautiful Margaret River district, south of Perth. Seeing a whale has long been on my list of things to do, so I just watched a few videos to get in the mood. This particular one was worth watching - people in their yacht in Santa Monica Bay, with several blue whales approaching their boat then sliding under at the last possible minute. I was as freaked out as they were!

Superb. I had a life changing experience off Fraser Island, with a small pod of adolescent whales eyeballing us for hours. So close we could reach out and touch. They just lay around, peering at us with huge all-seeing eyes. We were their entertainment. We had to leave them as it was getting dark, and they followed us for ages. I hope you get some close encounters in WA.

Whale (and dolphin) watching are on my to-do list too. Lots of luck at spotting lots of them! Have fun. And Happy Labor Day!
