Last week, a few of us from my last art course joined together and hired the studio all day. We had a great day, and being in Newtown gave us the opportunity for cafe brunch and lunch etc. Much painting and philisophical discussion ensued, accompanied by jazz on the stereo. We plan to do this more often. I spent hours sketching then painting my first ever self-portrait - I (she?) is looking very serious because I am sketching in charcoal whilst looking in a mirror. During the afternoon she became known as "Catherine". I've aded a webcam pic. so we can see if there is a resemblance.........

The resemblance mat be deeper than your skin...

The portrait is beautiful, I love your color choices, and the way you did the highlights!
Thanks for showing us the You, that you see!
Reminds me of Van Gogh's self portrait, sans ear bandage! Same brush technique and intense look.
A whole studio to yourselves for a day! Fantastic! Love seeing other artists self-portraits, they always reveal so much about the subject. And of course the subject is the artist and the artist is the subject! The intense look comes from concentrating so hard, it's difficult to laugh and paint at the same time :)
Beautiful! I love your self portrait! And renting the studio for a day, I bet the creativity was just bouncing off the ceiling! Well done - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
What a great idea to be able to rent a studio for a day...I wish I had something like that available here! Your self portrait is really wonderful...I love the boldness of the colours. Is Catherine a bold soul? How 'bout Cate?
