Art Therapy

Making and viewing art is one of the most relaxing things I can do. I'm half way through a ten week Mixed Media course, which is 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday nights. I should get home on Thursday after school and just want to flop in front of the TV - but no, I am eager to get back in the car and drive half an hour to Newtown to spend three hours making art! We've played with ink (white, sepia and black), charcoal on a plastic support and acrylic background, collage, (those old books with yellowed pages have a new use) and conte pastels, plus everything at once on various supports. The people are friendly, the teacher (Gina again) is her usual supportive, encouraging self, we play our favourite music as we work, and the time passes so quickly I am always surprised when Gina suggests we stop for coffee. In a busy term with reports taking many extra hours at the moment, it is an oasis of calm for me.

I love public art and have always felt that a town or city that supports public art is a city with soul.

Your art class sounds wonderful! I've been looking for a mixed media class around here but have really been away too much to participate in anything other than a weekend workshop. It's so good to get into that creative energy that a group provides. I'll be looking forward to seeing some of your work!

lol...love your comment on my last post.

and wow-so inspiring! I've thought about doing an art class or something after work and the worry that I'll be too tired has crossed my mind. But ya know, if it's something I love...
