Out with the old...

...in with the new. This post is for anyone who has ever cooked in my kitchen. The 25 year old stove with separate grill, with the knobs so worn no-one except me had any idea what they did, and the 25 year old microwave with the trim that kept falling off and the door that needed a knife to open, and the so-called 'extractor' fan that collected gunk and blew it all back into the kitchen, are gone!!!!
My friend recommended a fantastic kitchen guy, to whom nothing was a problem (except the 25 year old dishwasher that is tiled in, so didn't get replaced) and within half a day, my new appliances were installed, a new deep drawer built under, the new fan installed with a new cupboard over. If I'd known how inexpensive and easy all this would be, I would have done it years ago.
I assuaged my guilt over the environmental sin of replacing things that, technically, still work, by giving them to a guy up the road who makes pocket money from scrap metal. WIN/WIN!

LOVE IT! And donating the the neighbor does make it a win, win situation. You'll enjoy cooking so much more with your new equipment. And really, 25 years? Your new "toys" are so much more energy efficient your pocketbook will love the savings! Enjoy!!

First time reader this Sunday morning and enjoying your blog over my morning coffee. :) Congratulations on your new purchase! Isn't it a great feeling! I cook breakfast and dinner for a bunch of big-hearted police officers and have cooked many meals in a 30-yr-old 24" single oven. The 'bake/broil' knob was broken and for at least 5 years I had to turn the knob with pliers. One time I forgot and 'broiled' and ruined my beautiful cheesecake. And I always had to take the broken knob out of the drawer to see which way I had to turn the knob. Last summer I upgraded to a 27" double oven. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Here's my blog post when I bought my new oven. I was as excited as you were. When you do a big project, you do wonder what took you so long, but the hassle, at least for me, is finding someone you can depend on and trust, and their labor is rea$onable. Happy baking! http://ahop4pd.blogspot.com/2012/05/drama-drama-drama.html
