Democracy Oz Style

I spent a long, very cold day handing out Greens "how-to-vote" pamphlets at the election on Saturday. It was worth it, because the Greens will hold the balance of power in the Senate and have their first Lower House member. As to which party will be governing the country, we don't yet know! As usual, the people handing out for the other parties were friendly and collegiate, getting coffee for all, handing out for each other when someone needed a bathroom break and chatting away like old friends. Only in Australia?

I stayed back after school yesterday and with the help of a good (tall) friend put my lovely present from Eliza up on the wall of my beautiful new classroom (Thank you, Rudd Government). The class were suitably impressed when they arrived this morning, and have already learned a lot about the relative size and distances apart of various countries. I think our isolated location is also obvious - you can't even see Australia in this picture! The hats on the left are the 6 Thinking Hats (De Bono), in case you were wondering. Thanks Eliza, for the map; Andy, for the help; and Kevin, for the room.

I was there too- outside St Canice's handing out Green How To Vote Cards. I stayed on as a scrutineer for the count- very interesting. Greens did really well in Wentworth, I even got Susie Porter to vote Green.
Now all we can do is sit back and wonder who will be governing Aus for the next three years......
