Shoo fly, shoo...

Our unseasonably cool and wet summer has encouraged the flies, especially around my poor doggie outside. In my quest to get rid of them I have searched pet shops for repellent ( she hates it, but it protects her ears) and googled for help. I've moved the bin far away, wrap all the rubbish, clean up outside religiously, but still they come. Eucalyptus is supposed to scare them, but it scares dogs, too - she hates the smell. Finally, a google breakthrough - plastic bags half full of water, swinging in the breeze, apparently scare away flies. So we tried it - and it has drastically reduced the number, not all gone, of course, but much better. The amusing part is the tactful way friends don't ask why I have bags of water hanging around outside. They obviously think I am making a bizarre artistic statement - and for some reason, this does not surprise anyone!
